ABOUT
BRONZE REVIVAL is part of a private collection of unique sculptures
from Burkina Faso and the Kingdom of Benin, West Africa. During the span of over 30 years doing business in Africa, North American entrepreneurs Ann and Guy also developed a deep appreciation for
the complexity, aptitude and historical value of African art generally and the intricacies and
beauty of bronze sculptures specifically.
Their passion for the art world took them to art galleries and
exhibitions in West Africa,
southern Africa and
Madagascar, purchasing sand paintings from North African artists, rare butterflies art and multi-toned ebony wood sculptures from The Congo, stone carvings from Swaziland and quality hand-woven textiles from Burkina Faso.
They
were honored to
visit,
interview and film established bronze makers (les bronziers) at work
in their ateliers in Burkina Faso, interacting with apprentices learning the extensive, fascinating process
of lost-wax casting from the masters and elders of the family business.
Over centuries these skilled artists persevere,
despite being faced with various challenges such as sourcing raw materials for their craft
and the mercurial nature of tourism in their country.
Today, the chosen items showcased here are available for
auction and for the enjoyment and appreciation of new owners.
